Treasures from My Mother’s Basement

I may have mentioned that recently I spent 5 days cleaning and organizing my mother’s basement. It’s one of those crusty basements that hold lots of mystery and treasure from 97 years of living. I do believe I found every roller shade that had ever been used on a window. All the moving boxes, neatly labeled and stacked for the next move, were folded and stored from 42 years ago. 1 million tea cups from both grandmothers were found. There were some wonderful treasures that I brought home. Costume jewelry from my Grandma Mabel. A beautiful liquor set my parents bought at auction. The bottle of perfume that I always thought was so elegant on my mother’s bureau.

2 Good Jewelry Organizing Methods & How to have a Good Day

Don’t you love it when you have just the right outfit on so that you feel great?! The wrong item of clothing can really ruin a day. I don’t want to think twice about my appearance. The most successful way I find to do that is to wear something that fits comfortably and suits my coloring and shape. I am not a fusser. My hair takes exactly 20 seconds and my make-up 30. My teeth take the longest time. Floss regularly!!! My glasses cost a small fortune but I wear them every minute that I am awake and, my goodness, they are cute. Ask anyone. My goal is to always have comfortable, attractively shod feet. I confess that I sleep in my jewelry. I hardly ever change it. My husband has great taste and that is usually what inspires the change: a gift. But it is beautifully and locally crafted jewelry. Plus I love having it all organized and out on display.organizing my jewelry

my favorites on easy

My household decided to try a spending freeze for the first 21 days of March. They say one can break a habit in 3 weeks. It has been one day shy of 2 weeks and we are doing pretty well. I did cheat and go out to breakfast with my daughter once. oops.

Meanwhile, spending does not equal shopping if I don’t buy anything, right? I spent the evening on etsy! Above are my favorites. Which should I get on March 22?

1. Trio Atomic Necklace from iadornu.  I love the cinderblock bookshelf reference!

2. Washington State Tourist Print from dpsullivan.  He has so many great things on his site.

3. Sasquatch/Big Foot Pillow from pixalknit. Who doesn’t want Big Foot on their couch?

4. Lily of the Valley Woolen Bowl from chetanddot.  I love lily of the valley and I love wool!

5. The Green Beyond from kikiandpolly.  This is a print from one of my favorite artists, Lisa Golightly.

6. Retro Orange Felt Pillow from StudioTree. Some fun all wrapped up in a pillow.
